Boost Your Celebration with a Wedding Parades Brass Band

After the wedding vows are said and done, most brides and grooms have people walk or drive from the ceremony to the reception venue. How cliché! Give your guests a trip they’ll never forget by adding a unique wedding parade to the day’s festivities.

What is a second-line wedding parade?

A second-line wedding parade is a New Orleans tradition in which the newly married couple, the wedding party, guests, and sometimes even members of the community parade through the streets after the ceremony, led by the first line of grand marshal and live music from a brass band.

Second-line parades originated in the late 19th century when the “jazz funerals” of New Orleans became increasingly popular. The tradition is said to have originated with the African-American community, who would hold funerals for their loved ones with brass bands playing upbeat music.

Today, second-line parades are a popular way to add some New Orleans style to your wedding day. Many newlyweds choose to have a second-line parade after their ceremony to get their guests moving and add some fun to the wedding.

How Long is a normal wedding parade route?

A typical wedding parade route is about 2 miles long and takes approximately 1 hour to complete. However, just like any other tradition, there is no set length or time for a second-line parade. You can make your parade as long or as short as you’d like!

The length will also depend on local parade permits. For example, depending on local laws, you might need to hire police escorts to monitor the parade.

How much does it cost to book a brass band for a wedding parade?

When it comes to cost, it depends on the size of the band and the time you book them. Typically, a New Orleans jazz band for a wedding parade will cost between $500 and $1,000.

Can a brass band play both the wedding parade and reception?

Of course! While many couples traditionally choose DJs or cover bands for their receptions, a New Orleans brass band will liven up any special event. Whether you planning an exotic destination wedding or tying the knot at city hall, a brass band will make your wedding day truly memorable.
